Torllief

Mr. Torleif Jonasson has been a member of the Danish UNA since 1991 and has been involved in all areas of work. His main focus has been on sustainable development: from 1994 to 2003, he served as a national delegate to the UN’s Commission on Sustainable Development; from 1996 to 1997, he organised NGO-activities in relation to UNGASS-19 (following up on the Rio-conference); between 2001 and 2003, he facilitated NGO-involvement in the UN’s World Summit on Sustainable Development process as NGO Major Groups co-ordinator; and in 2012, he participated in the UN Conference on Sustainable Development and followed by getting involved in the establishment of the SDGs. This year, he attended the UN HLPF to follow up on the implementation of the SDGs.

In 2010 Torleif Jonasson stepped down as Vice-President of the Danish UNA to take up the full-time position of Secretary-General; leaving his position of international consultant at the Danish Folk High School Association, where he was responsible for Nordic, European and Global co-operation, including working with partners on projects in Bangladesh, India and South Africa.

Torleif Jonasson takes the role of civil society seriously and has nationally and internationally worked for co-operation, common understanding and mutual positions in negotiations, a focus that he wishes to bring to WFUNA Executive Committee based on many years of representing the Danish UNA in various WFUNA meetings and Assemblies, as well as in UN processes. Torleif Jonasson is the chairperson of the Danish 92-group NGO coalition as well as a board member of the awareness campaign ‘World’s Best News.’
