Co-organized with UNDP, UNESCAP, Ulsan Metropolitan City Government, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), Korea Midland Power, and supported by CVC and DCAMP, the seventh iteration of Citypreneurs was held in Ulsan, Republic of Korea from February to June 2023 to solve city challenges, as defined by the SDGs. The program focused on three themes: Innovative and Inclusive Economic Growth, Sustainable Energy, and Sustainable and Inclusive Infrastructure.
Out of the Top 26 startups invited to take part in a mentoring program and Demo Day, held on June 12, 9 winners were selected to receive monetary prizes worth up to 56,000 USD, investment opportunities, and take part in the Asia-Pacific regional impact programs prepared by UNDP and DCAMP.
The program comprised a number of activities including: Impact Seminars throughout the program to help teams with impact-profit alignment in their business model, storytelling and data validation for the SDGs; Weekly mentoring sessions with investors, lawyers, professionals on the 3 program themes; Industry 4.0 Citypreneurs Policy Dialogue on Regional Trends, Financing and Labour Impacts to explore how start-ups can leverage policies and trends to expand and grow in a highly competitive environment of the 4IR; and an ESG and Start-up Ecosystem Dialogue held in May, which allowed the top 26 startups to meet ROK professionals on ESG and Start-up Ecosystem and shared useful information and opportunities. The event served as a platform to educate participants about ROK’s innovation ecosystem and provided impact co-work chances for participating start-ups with major corporations in ROK.
