Twenty-eight student representatives from 15 universities took part in the third edition of WFUNA’s College Leaders at the UN Program. The participants are Korean nationals, selected and sent from their respective universities to represent the school at the United Nations. The student cohort started the program in April, meeting once a week to learn about the Sustainable Development Goals.

The participants were divided into six groups. Each group picked a particular goal and target for more in-depth study. Groups studied targets in Goals 4, Goals 11, and Goal 16. Their work culminated in a week-long visit to the UN Headquarters from 21-25 August, where the students met with experts and practitioners on the aforementioned SDGs.

Panelists and speakers were from UN departments and agencies, civil society, academia, and local government, including Columbia University’s Teacher’s College, US Fund for UNICEF, Back to Humanity, the City of New York, the World Food Programme, UN Global Compact and UN Habitat.

The group also visited or welcomed diplomats from the Permanent Missions of the Republic of Korea, Haiti, Australia, and Botswana, including Ambassador Tae-yul Cho, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the UN.

At the end of the week, the student presented their Outcome Documents to representatives from the UN Secretary-General’s Youth Envoy and DESA (Department of Economic and Social Affairs within the UN Secretariat).
