27 November – 1 December 2023, New York – WFUNA organized the Leadership Training Program at the United Nations, in partnership with the Association of Universities of Asia Pacific (AUAP), in New York City.
Following the first edition in 2019 and the pandemic period, the second iteration of the Leadership Training Program at the United Nations took place over one week, with 35 high level professionals in directorate, faculty, and management level positions from universities, law firms, and academic institutions in Thailand, the Philippines, India, as well as the United Kingdom.
Over the central theme of Global-Oriented Institutions, the Program was designed to enhance the participants’ collective understanding of leadership in the face of today’s complex and interconnected global challenges. The training aimed to introduce as well as deepen participants’ knowledge with the work of the United Nations, strengthen their critical knowledge over educational and effective leadership, as well as to foster their leadership within their communities.
As part of the Program, the participants visited the United Nations Headquarters, they dived into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), they were introduced into the work of different UN organizations and the ways leadership and education play a pivotal role in the organizations’ impact service work, by invited experts and renowned professionals, and they presented their collective approaches towards identified challenges around SDG 4 – Quality education and leadership, through hands-on activities.
At the end of the Leadership Training Program, the participants had the opportunity to visit main sights of New York City, and they were awarded WFUNA certificates of program completion by WFUNA Geneva and New York staff.
