WFUNA and a group of peacebuilding organizations from around the world have produced a shared statement to mark the International Day of Peace. Recognizing the importance of the inclusion of Goal 16 within Agenda 2030, the statement urges the international community to collaboratively reflect on what needs to be done to foster the growth of peaceful, just, and inclusive societies worldwide. The statement proposes 5 key principles that the international community must work to uphold, if it is to address and prevent violence at its root:
These principles are seen as crucial considerations to help support the United Nations fulfill its vision of saving succeeding generations from the scourge of war.
