The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) is proud to announce a new strategic partnership with the International Institute in Geneva (IIG), formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on May 12 in Geneva.

Geneva, May 21, 2025 — The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) is proud to announce a new strategic partnership with the International Institute in Geneva (IIG), formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on May 12 in Geneva.

This unique collaboration marks a milestone in academic engagement with multilateral institutions. Starting in 2026, students in the third year of IIG’s Bachelor of Arts in International Relations (BA-IR) program will participate in WFUNA’s Advanced Training Program at the United Nations, followed by a specially designed internship experience facilitated by WFUNA.

The program is the first of its kind to be integrated into an academic curriculum, combining intensive exposure to the UN system with hands-on professional experience. Students will gain practical insights into global challenges, diplomacy, and multilateral cooperation, with the opportunity to build professional networks and explore future careers in international organizations.

“We are pleased to strengthen our collaboration with WFUNA through a unique partnership. Starting 2026, students in the third year of the Bachelor of Arts in International Relations (BA) will follow an Advanced Training program at the United Nations in addition to performing an internship. The training and the internship will provide numerous benefits to the students including exposure to global challenges, networking opportunities, understanding the workings of multilateralism and a stepping stone for a career in international organizations,” said Eric Willumsen, President of IIG.

“WFUNA is excited about expanding on our partnership with IIG and we are honored by the trust they are placing in us and the training programs. This is the first time an academic institution is incorporating the training program into their curriculum, which underscores IIG’s commitment to fostering the next generation of global citizens,” said Aziel Goulandris, Secretary-General of WFUNA.

The first cohort of IIG students is expected to attend the Training Program in early 2026, with internships to follow throughout the year. This collaboration exemplifies both institutions’ shared commitment to empowering youth and advancing the principles of the United Nations.
