Yerevan, Armenia – On 26 April, 2017, UN House in Yerevan, Armenia hosted a closing ceremony for students and teachers who participated in Mission Possible Armenia this year.
Mission Possible launched in five schools in Yerevan in September 2016. Since then, 84 Mission Possible students learned about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and applied project management training to design projects to address one of the SDGs, such as Quality Education (Goal 4), Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal 12), and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (Goal 16).
Ms. Nonna Hovhannisyan, the Mission Possible National Program Coordinator based in Yerevan, said about her experience: “During the Mission Possible program I encountered intelligent, creative and enthusiastic high school students, who, despite their young age, are already mature enough to face global challenges, analyze them and take cooperative actions to address them. It was a pleasure to know these students, follow and support their project developments and witness their outstanding achievements.”
At the ceremony, students described becoming “Agents of Change” and shared the results of 12 community-based projects addressing a range of SDGs including paper recycling initiatives, awareness campaigns for more green public spaces, tutoring and mentoring programs for children, and the establishment of student government bodies.
Mission Possible student, Knar Ohanjanyan, shared, “It was an incredible experience to participate in Mission Possible, because I gained experience in making projects, understood all my mistakes that I had made before, and I made a good partnership with my friends. Me and Aram [a fellow team member] had tried to do the same project at school before, but due to our mistakes, it did not work. Now we know how we need to start and develop a project. I’m very happy that our team made its contribution in sustainable development and now at our school people know that recycling of paper is an important thing.”
This event was organized with AUNA’s partner UN DPI Informational office in Yerevan. The Mission Possible program in Armenia was made possible through the generous support of the United Nations Academic Impact – Korea and Human in Love.
