Closing Ceremony: Mission Possible Singapore, 2017-2018

Closing Ceremony

WFUNA celebrates the successful completion of the first Mission Possible cycle in Singapore.

NEW YORK, NY – On September 12, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) organizes a Closing Ceremony for students who have completed the inaugural cycle of the Mission Possible program in Singapore.

Hosted at Nexus International School, this event will bring together 45 students from Nexus International School, Tanglin Trust School, and Hwa Chong International School. Students will present the work they have been doing in their communities over the past six months contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by United Nations Member States in 2015.

The Closing Ceremony is an opportunity for global citizens to share their insights about local and global contexts and connect with other agents of change with the shared understanding that youth are critical players for sustainable development. The ten projects developed and led by students as part of the Mission Possible curriculum address five of the 17 SDGs such as Life Below Water, Responsible Consumption and Production, and Good Health and Well Being. Students have worked on topics as diverse as marine life awareness and conservation, mental well-being, integrating foreign domestic workers in their school community, and reducing waste and energy consumption at school level.

Focused on project-based learning, a key feature of Mission Possible is to encourage students to apply their learning outside of the classroom to everyday situations. “Mission possible was such a dynamic and hands-on project which allowed us as students to challenge ourselves and our knowledge in project management through our training sessions as well as in the implementation of our ideas. It brought so much joy to us as a team to see the outcome of our efforts and to know that we had made a mark in our communities however small or big they may be,” said says Anjali Kumanan, a student at Nexus International School who will present with her team on Wednesday.

About Mission Possible:

Mission Possible is WFUNA’s flagship global citizenship education program. Over the course of a semester, high school students acquire global competencies and 21st century skills, learn about the United Nations and the SDGs, and apply their learning through student-led projects on topics that are important to them and their communities.

Mission Possible was launched in India by the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) in 2015 with the support of the Project Management Institute Educational Foundation (PMIEF). Learn about Mission Possible here.
