The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) was proud to host students from the University of Richmond for an immersive Advanced Training Program at United Nations Headquarters in New York City. This collaboration marked the beginning of a promising relationship between WFUNA and one of the United States’ top liberal arts institutions, united by a commitment to global citizenship and public service.

Part of the university’s career-focused Spider Road Trip, the program began in Washington, D.C., and continued in New York, where students engaged directly with international policy professionals, humanitarian organizations, and UN representatives. Designed by WFUNA, the training focused on practical skill-building through dialogue, simulations, and real-world case studies.

A highlight of the experience was a sustainability simulation where students took on the roles of various global stakeholders and collaborated on responses to complex international challenges. Participants presented their proposals to UN personnel and received constructive feedback.

Another highlight for students was visiting a Permanent Mission, where diplomats encouraged active discussion on real-world policy issues, inviting students to consider solutions and understand the broader global landscape.

The professionalism and enthusiasm of the students made a lasting impression on WFUNA staff and partners, showcasing the value of connecting international institutions with the next generation of global leaders. This successful partnership highlights the importance of early-career exposure to international affairs and sets the stage for future collaborations that support both educational and diplomatic missions.
