From May 5 to 9 May 2025, WFUNA successfully conducted its Advanced Training Program at the United Nations in Geneva, hosting a dynamic and diverse cohort of 26 students from The Ohio State University.
This specialized program provided participants with a unique, immersive experience through interactive sessions, high-level conferences, and guided tours of key international institutions.
Students engaged with a range of critical global issues, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a Model United Nations simulation, which transformed the students into real-life diplomats, giving them the opportunity to actively engage in international negotiations and consensus building. These sessions offered a balance of theory and practical application, allowing students not only to deepen their understanding but also to actively participate in problem-solving exercises and real-world simulations.
Beyond academic enrichment, the program helped the students build essential skills such as critical thinking, adaptability, and global awareness. Adhering to the UN longstanding values, the program provided the participants with a stronger sense of responsibility and a clearer understanding of the complexities of international cooperation and global governance.
The success of the Geneva program underscores WFUNA’s ongoing dedication to empowering youth through education and engagement, preparing the next generation of leaders to contribute meaningfully to a more just, sustainable, and interconnected world.
Student feedback reflected the program’s positive impact, with participants sharing” “It was such an incredible and eye-opening experience,” and “It was an honor to engage with the UN system firsthand and deepen my understanding of global policy and diplomacy.”
