The World Federation of United Nation Associations’ (WFUNA) flagship global citizenship education program, Mission Possible, was launched in Singapore for the first time on September 20, 2017. Twenty-five students from Tanglin Trust School participated in the launch workshop and embarked on their journey to become Agents of Change with a global citizen mindset. Prior to participating in Mission Possible, the students of Tanglin Trust School were already actively engaged in Service Learning as part of the school’s core and are passionate about realising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through Mission Possible, the students will learn how to be more impactful change-makers by engaging in student-led projects. These projects will give them the opportunity to practice project management, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills in order to find innovative solutions to improve lives locally.
During the launch workshop, the students demonstrated passion and enthusiasm about bringing change to the local community and acquiring knowledge about solutions for sustainable living. Being keen observers and concerned global citizens, students highlighted energy consumption (Goal 7), inclusivity of persons with disability (Goal 10) and urban farming for healthier food production (Goal 3) as some pertinent issues for their communities in Singapore.
The launch workshop presented students with an opportunity to communicate their ideas and collaborate with others. The workshop included a team-building activity to practice making decisions as a team, after which students reflected on the importance of listening and respecting each other’s views.
After a successful launch, WFUNA is looking forward to seeing the development of the students’ sustainable projects, which will be carried out with the guidance and support of dedicated faculty advisors and the school. Students will also receive direct support from the National Program Coordinator through project management skills training and support sessions.
Mission Possible: Singapore is made possible with the support of United Nations Association of Singapore, the Project Management Institute Educational Foundation, and Tanglin Trust School.
