NEW YORK, NY – On October 23, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) proudly continues its United Nations Day tradition with events thanking its supporters and donors in New York, Geneva, and Seoul. Delicious treats, from cakes and cupcakes to chocolates and coffee, are handed out to various UN departments and agencies, NGOs, and donors across the three cities.
United Nations Day marks the day the UN Charter was signed and came into force in 1945. Each year, WFUNA and its member United Nations Associations (UNAs) around the globe celebrate this momentous occasion honoring the birth of the United Nations. UNAs have organized UN Day events that range from public lectures and campaigns to music concerts and art exhibitions. This year’s United Nations Day celebrations are of particular importance, as they commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.
“UN Day reaffirms our membership’s collective commitment to strengthening and supporting the UN and connecting civil society with its goals and principles,” says WFUNA Secretary-General Bonian Golmohammadi.
This year, Zaro’s Family Bakery has partnered with WFUNA in celebrating United Nations Day. Their generous donation of 40 custom-decorated cakes reflects Zaro’s commitment to the principles of peace, justice, and equality espoused by the United Nations and WFUNA. This donation has enabled WFUNA to recognize and thank our partners and supporters at the United Nations and throughout Manhattan for their help in furthering our mission of creating a stronger and more effective United Nations. We are glad to have Zaro’s Bakery as a partner in this year’s celebrations, and thank them for their generous contribution.
