The Urban Innovation Challenge: Citypreneurs Ulsan 2023 (Citypreneurs Ulsan 2023), an impact start-up acceleration programme completed its long journey with the Demo Day held at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) on 12 and 13 June 2023.
For this year’s Citypreneurs, a total of 83 startups from 25 different countries applied to be in a part of our acceleration program. Out of these start-ups, 21 innovative startups from the Asia Pacific, including Korea, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the Philippines presented their business models and ideas aligned with the SDGs. Over the 9 weeks of acceleration program, start-ups benefited from in-depth mentoring sessions, delivered by industry experts, legal advisors, and impact investors. Furthermore, weekly workshops covered business model development, human resources management, financial resource mobilization, marketing, and impact-profit alignment.
The Citypreneurs 2023 Grand Prize was awarded to Terrabio. Co., Ltd., an Ulsan-based producer of eco-friendly food waste disposal equipment. CBBS, Co., Ltd. – provider of high-capacity graphene products and services contributing to energy efficiency, received WFUNA Award and was also selected as a finalist who will be eligible for investment review opportunities by Korean investors. 8 teams in total received monetary prizes worth up to USD 55,000.
