PyeongChang, Republic of Korea – The 2019 PyeongChang Global Peace Forum set forth a vision of a peaceful world. Building upon the momentum created by the inaugural forum in 2018 wherein focus centered on promoting peace and creating a sustainable future in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, WFUNA’s Secretary-General, Mr. Bonian Golmohammadi, highlighted the nexus between SDG 16 and Peace.

For the first time since the 2015 adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, SDG 16 will be reviewed at the High-level Political Forum in July alongside SDG 5, SDG 8, SDG 10, SDG 13, and SDG 17. In his address, Mr. Golmohammadi spoke to the catalytic effect of leveraging the linkage between SDG 16+ and disarmament and security as it relates to policy, practice and political will, strengthening multi-stakeholder partnerships within the broader SDG 16+ community, and promoting SDG 16 on the international stage at this year’s HLPF and subsequent SDG Summit.

The universality and revolutionary impact of the 2030 Agenda underscores the potential to drive sustainable, systemic and catalytic change universally, global north to global south, while ensuring that SDG 16 delivers and recognizing that SDG 16 matters for all.
