On November 1st, WFUNA submitted its contribution to the UNCSD compilation document. In preparation for the Rio +20 conference, the UNCSD put out a call for input from Major Groups as identified in Agenda 21. Major Groups, including nongovernmental organizations, were invited to submit papers on how the world can move towards sustainable development. These submissions will result in a compilation document, which will be discussed by Member States during the second inter-sessional meeting 15-16 December 2011 in New York. These discussions will result in a zero draft outcome to be negotiated January onwards. Read WFUNA’s official submission here.
The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil June 4-6, marking 20 years since the historical Rio Earth Summit, which catalyzed global action on sustainable development. The two major themes will be Green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication; and Institutional Framework for sustainable development.
