KOREA – On Tuesday, 30 July, and on Saturday, 3 August, WFUNA was invited to present at Yuhan-Kimberly’s Green Camp in GyeongGi-Do at the SanUm Recreation Forest in Korea. WFUNA was greeted by Yuhan-Kimberly CEO, Mr. KyooBok Choe, Vice-President Mr. YoungHwa Lim, and other senior leaders and staffers of Yuhan-Kimberly. This camp was held in partnership with the Korea Forest Service and the Korea Forest Research Institute. The 41st Green Camp was held from Tuesday, July 30th to Friday August 2nd, and the 42nd Green Camp was held from Saturday, August 3rd to Tuesday, August 6th.

What is Green Camp?

Green Camp is a program under Yuhan-Kimberly’s Keep Korea Green Campaign, established in 1984 to promote environmental protection in Korea while encouraging participation from Korean citizens. Green Camp was established in 1988, offering a unique opportunity to young Korean women, educating and training them on the importance of environment friendly practices. The camp focuses on interactive trainings and teachings from educated professionals on the forest, environment, art and science. Students gain a broad understanding on the importance of being green friendly while experiencing a truly memorable experience.

WFUNA and Female Empowerment

More than 70 Korean female high school students were in attendance at each camp, each with an interest on the environment and/or volunteering their efforts towards a great cause. WFUNA spoke on the significance of female empowerment in the field of environment, and how young women can begin developing their skills in becoming the next female leader. WFUNA encouraged involvement with the United Nations, WFUNA, and other international and local development agencies and non-profit organizations. Working to support and cultivate the next generation of female leaders is important for the advancement of our global future.
