On January 10th 2023, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) convened virtually for the fourty-fourth instalment in a series of monthly dialogues between the President of the UN Security Council and Civil Society organizations.

The Dialogue featured H.E. Mrs. Shino Mitsuko, Deputy Permanent Representative of Japan to the UN. The Briefing was attended by close to 140 civil society organization representatives that RSVPed from different parts of the world.

The event was broadcasted live on UN Web TV and promoted on social media with the hashtag #MeetUNSCPres to allow for a participation from a global audience and wider stakeholder engagement.

Ambassador Shino highlighted priorities in the programme of work for January – strengthening Rule of Law on Peace and Security issues, and advancing Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace through signature events, meetings and debates to be held throughout the month of January.

The floor was then opened for questions from representatives of civil society organizations on a wide range of country and regional issues relating to Afghanistan, Haiti, Myanmar, the DRC, and Ukraine, as well as thematic issues related to Japan’s priorities for the month – Peacekeeping, Conflict Prevention and Mediation, Women participation and inclusion, and CSO participation.
