On October 5th 2023, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) convened virtually the fiftieth instalment in a series of monthly dialogues between the President of the UN Security Council and Civil Society organizations.
The dialogue featured H.E. Mr. Norberto Moretti, Deputy Permanent Representative of Brazil to the UN. WFUNA’s Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Aziel Goulandris, moderated the briefing, which was attended by in-person representatives from civil society organizations, as well as those who RSVPed to view the dialogue through the livestream from different parts of the world.
The event was broadcasted live on UN Web TV and promoted on social media with the hashtag #MeetUNSCPres to allow for a participation from a global audience and wider stakeholder engagement.
Ambassador Moretti highlighted priorities in the programme of work for October as well as Brazil’s general focus areas, including Women, Peace and Security, Peacebuilding, and the promotion of Human Rights.
The floor was then opened for questions from representatives of civil society organizations on a wide range of questions relating to ways civil society can be further involved in the work of the Council, the role of women in the peace process, as well as the matter of food insecurity, among other issues.
