Civil Society Dialogue with Denmark, President of the UN Security Council for March, 2025.

On March 7, WFUNA organized the fifty-ninth instalment in a series of monthly dialogues between the President of the UN Security Council and Civil Society organizations. The Dialogue was held in-person at United Nations Headquarters and broadcast live on UN Web TV for wider accessibility.

The dialogue featured H.E. Christina Markus Lassen, Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of Denmark to the UN, and was moderated by Mr. Bill Yotive of WFUNA. The event was broadcasted live on UN Web TV and promoted on social media with the hashtag #MeetUNSCPres to allow for a participation from a global audience and wider stakeholder engagement.

Ambassador Lassen shared the Council’s programme of work for the month of March. She spoke about meetings scheduled and Denmark’s priorities, such as the protection of international law, as well as a working for a transparent, effective, and inclusive Security Council.

The floor was then opened for questions from representatives of civil society organizations, inquiring on extreme violence and natural resources in Haiti, UNSC composition changes and their implication on functioning, climate justice, and the women, peace and security agenda. In her commentary, the Ambassador stressed the importance of not repeating past mistakes, standing up for international humanitarian law, and Denmark’s intention to highlight climate drivers in connection with existing conflicts being addressed on the Council.
