Civil Society Dialogue with the United Kingdom, President of the UN Security Council for July 2023
On July 6th 2023, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) convened virtually the forty-eighth installment in a series of monthly dialogues between the President of the UN Security Council and Civil Society organizations.
The dialogue featured H.E. Dame Barbara Woodward, Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the UN. WFUNA’s Bill Yotive moderated the briefing, which was attended by representatives of civil society organizations at UN Headquarters in New York, as well as online viewers through UN Web TV.
The event was broadcasted live on UN Web TV and promoted on social media with the hashtag #MeetUNSCPres to allow for participation from a global audience, and wider stakeholder engagement.
Ambassador Woodward highlighted priorities in the programme of work for July, including prioritizing women and children in conflict, working with CSOs and grassroots organizations, as well as working towards understanding both the potential, as well as harms that AI possesses in today’s society.
The floor was then opened for questions from representatives of civil society organizations on a wide range of questions relating to Colombia, the DRC, and Haiti, as well as topics such as Children in Armed Conflict, Women Peace and Security, as well as climate change, among other issues.
