Civil Society Dialogue with Ecuador, President of the UN Security Council for December 2023
On December 11th, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) convened virtually the fifty first installment in a series of monthly dialogues between the President of the UN Security Council and Civil Society organizations.
The dialogue featured H.E. Mr. Andrés Efren Montalvo Sosa, Deputy Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the UN. WFUNA’s Secretary General, Mr. Aziel Goulandris, moderated the briefing, which was attended by in-person representatives from civil society organizations, as well as by those who RSVPed to view the dialogue virtually through the livestream from different parts of the world.
The event was broadcasted live on UN Web TV and promoted on social media with the hashtag #MeetUNSCPres to allow for a participation from a global audience and wider stakeholder engagement.
Ambassador Montalvo Sosa highlighted priorities in the programme of work for December as well as Ecuador’s general focus areas, including non-proliferation, the peaceful settlement of disputes, as well as strengthening the participation of civil society in the new agenda for peace.
The floor was then opened for questions from representatives of civil society organizations on a wide range of questions relating to the current Israel-Palestinian conflict, competencies of the Security Council, and the importance of the involvement of the international community at all levels to address current and pressing matters, among other issues.
