Model UN Toolkit

The Model UN Toolkit is designed by WFUNA and the United Nations Department of Global Communications (DGC) for use in classrooms or clubs and to allow educators to conduct a complete four-session simulation with minimal preparation.

The Model UN Toolkit aligns with 2023 General Assembly resolution A/RES/77/336, the first UN Resolution acknowledging the importance of Model UN in support of the work of the United Nations.

WFUNA and UN DGC offer the attached materials to educators around the world to inspire youth to become global citizens by engaging in a popular experiential learning activity known around the world as Model UN while ensuring the accuracy of simulations and adherence to the values of the United Nations. (See Press Release)[add link]

The Toolkit includes:
• Step-by-step guidance for teachers and facilitators
• A sample zero-draft resolution for negotiation and amendment
• A script for the President and Facilitator to use to preside over formal and informal meetings
• Student worksheets and background information on UNEA and the UN system

The simulation :
This mini-simulation of the UN Environment Assembly will introduce students to the consensus decision-making process that real diplomats engage in when negotiating at the UN today. This toolkit builds on the United Nations Guide to Model UN and provides greater detail on how the consensus process works in negotiations so that it can be experienced by students around the world with the aim of nurturing the next generation of global citizens.
