WEDNESDAY, JULY 19, 2017
NEW YORK, USA – With the theme “Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world” and SDGs 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 14 and 17 up for review, the 2017 High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) was held from 10 July-19 July under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. 44 member states presented Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) on the progress so far in the national implementation of the 2030 Agenda. This HLPF was the largest ever in terms of participation with 2458 registered representatives.
Representatives of UNA-Canada, UNA Norway, UNA-Sweden were present in New York City, accompanying the official government delegations as Civil Society representatives in some cases. WFUNA hosted an informal meeting with these UNAs to inform about its most recent initiatives, learn about UNA priorities in relation to the SDGs and brainstorm ideas for collaboration between WFUNA and UNAs leading to the next edition of HLFP in 2018.

On July 17, WFUNA also hosted, the 16+ Forum Mid-Year Expo, an opportunity for all stakeholders to focus on Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16), how it is reflected in the Voluntary National Reviews, and its interlinkages to those SDGs highlighted at this year’s HLPF. WFUNA sees HLPF as a very important space for UNAs to be involved in and aims to further collaborate with UNAs in the lead up to next year’s HLPF on: “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies” where SDGs 6, 7, 11, 12, 15 and 17 will be reviewed.
