On July 8th, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) organized the eighteenth installment in a series of monthly dialogues between the President of the UN Security Council and Civil Society organization at the United Nations Headquarters.

The dialogue featured H.E. Gustavo Meza-Cuadra, Permanent Representative of Peru to the UN, and President of the Security Council for the month of July. WFUNA’s Peace and Security Officer, Mr. Pablo Angulo, moderated the briefing, which was attended by over 35 participants from UN-accredited civil society organizations.

The event was broadcast live on UN Web TV with 974 viewers, and it was promoted on social media with the hashtag #MeetUNSCPres to allow for a participation from a global audience and wider stakeholder engagement.

Ambassador Meza-Cuadra shared the Council’s programme for the month and highlighted the briefings, Open Debates and consultations they are organizing, including a Briefing on the Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Implementing the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda as well as a Briefing on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace. The floor was then opened for questions from representatives of civil society organizations on country specific questions relating to Myanmar and the Rohingya Crisis, the Korean Peninsula, Venezuela, Colombia, the Sahel region, Sudan as well as on topics such as the Protection of Civilians, Gender Equality, Youth, Peace and Security and on SDG16.
