On February 12th, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) convened the fifteenth installment in a series of monthly dialogues between the President of the UN Security Council and Civil Society Organizations at the United Nations Headquarters.

The dialogue featured H.E. Anatolio Ndong Mba, Permanent Representative of Equatorial Guinea to the UN, and President of the Security Council for the month of February. WFUNA’s Senior Peace and Security Officer, Ms. Margaret Williams, moderated the Briefing, which was attended by over 40 participants from UN-accredited civil society organizations.

Ambassador Ndong Mba shared the Council’s action-packed agenda for the month beginning with a high-level debate on “Mercenary activities as a source of insecurity and destabilization in Africa,” the Council’s visiting mission to Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea Bissau, and high-level debate on “Silencing the Guns in Africa” scheduled to take place at the end of the month. The floor was then opened for questions from representatives of civil society organizations on topics relating to Women, Peace and Security and the role of NGOs in Security Council affairs as well as country specific crises in Myanmar, North Korea, and Venezuela.

WFUNA will continue hosting monthly briefings with subsequent Presidents of the United Nations Security Council.
