Civil Society Dialogue with Panama, President of the UN Security Council for August, 2025.
On August 5, 2025, WFUNA organized the 64th installment in a series of monthly dialogues between the President of the UN Security Council and Civil Society organizations. The Dialogue was held in-person at United Nations Headquarters and broadcast live on UN Web TV for wider accessibility.
The dialogue featured H.E. Eloy Alfaro de Alba, Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of Panama to the UN, and was moderated by William Yotive. The event was broadcasted live on UN Web TV and promoted on social media with the hashtag #MeetUNSCPres to allow for a participation from a global audience and wider stakeholder engagement.
Ambassador Alfaro de Alba shared the Council’s programme of work for the month of August. He spoke about meetings, including a signature event on maritime security with a focus on environmental impact, and an open debate on conflict-based sexual violence. He also emphasized that Panama will prioritize transparency, inclusiveness and efficiency throughout its presidency and seek to foster an open and respectful environment during their tenure.
The floor was then opened for questions from representatives of civil society organizations, inquiring on region-specific issues in Sudan, Gaza, Syria, Haiti, and DRC, as well as thematic issues including civil society and youth participation. In his commentary, the Ambassador stressed the importance of civil society participation in the work on the Council. Ambassador Alfaro de Alba closed the Dialogue by emphasizing the importance of the Council’s role in putting pressure on upholding accountability.
