Civil Society Dialogue with France, President of the UN Security Council for April, 2025.
On April 4, 2025, WFUNA organized the 60th installment in a series of monthly dialogues between the President of the UN Security Council and Civil Society organizations. The Dialogue was held in-person at United Nations Headquarters and broadcast live on UN Web TV for wider accessibility.
The dialogue featured H.E. Jérôme Bonnafont, Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of France to the UN, and was moderated by Aziel Goulandris, Secretary-General of WFUNA. The event was broadcasted live on UN Web TV and promoted on social media with the hashtag #MeetUNSCPres to allow for a participation from a global audience and wider stakeholder engagement.
Ambassador Bonnafont shared the Council’s programme of work for the month of April. He spoke about meetings scheduled for the month and focus areas, such as peacekeeping to safeguard the future, the protection of UN personnel in armed conflicts, and reform of the UN Security Council through expansion and responsible use of veto.
The floor was then opened for questions from representatives of civil society organizations, inquiring on France’s intention to support a culture of human rights on the Security Council and how civil society can support them, as well as the situations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Lebanon, and Ukraine.
In his commentary, the Ambassador stressed the importance of bringing all the voices to the table in resolving conflict. Ambassador Bonnafont closed the Dialogue with an invitation to civil society to share their comments with the Mission so they can work together.
