Ms. Zhang Dan is Vice-President and Director-General of the United Nations Association of China. Joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in 1990 where she worked as third secretary, second secretary and director of APEC division of the Department of International Organizations of the Foreign Ministry. From  1997 - 2000, she  worked in the Commissioner’s Office of the Foreign Ministry of China in Hong Kong SAR. From 2006 - 2011, she was Counselor in the Mission of China to the United Nations in New York, responsible for human rights, gender equality and development related issues. From 2011 - 2014, she was in charge of international economic and development cooperation in the newly created Department of International Economic Affairs of the Foreign Ministry.

Ms. Zhang Dan is an expert on China”s participation in the United Nations. Working among 193 Member States of the United Nations and the Secretariat since 2006, she managed a broad range of matters, including social development issues, gender equality, human rights and cultural dialogue, enabling effective and strategic participation of China at the United Nations. She served as the lead negotiator on many Chinese Delegations to the UN, such as to the Third Committee of the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council. She also coordinated China’s election to all UN bodies. She headed the Chinese Delegation to Sessions of NGO Committee of the UN and as alternate representative of China to the Commission on Social Development (CsocD) and the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). She also served as the Vice-Chair and Rapporteur of the 46th session of CSocD of the UN.
