Lisa, a member of the UNASA who participated in our UNA Human Rights Youth Training in 2011, has implemented a human rights project in her community.
The Human Rights Awareness Run took place on Human Rights Day in South Africa, 21st March 2012 at 18h00. Before and after the run, participants could visit a stand with human rights information and thereby educate themselves on human rights issues.
There were a total of 95 participants, a few people helped out and many more knew about the initiative, which spread the word about why South Africa has a public holiday on the 21st of March.
WFUNA congratulates her to the great awareness raising work!
Norway
Since the WFUNA Training in June 2011, Åse from UNA Norway has carried out an internship with Amnesty International in Oslo, Norway, coordinating events and campaigns, such as an Amnesty International campaign about decriminalization of abortion in Nicaragua (see picture).
Furthermore, she has worked in Peru with a women’s rights NGO called “WARMI Peru Información sobre mujeres”. During her time there she has gained important knowledge about the human rights situation of Peruvian women, through the development of videos about women’s rights, social media and through the participation in the production of radio programs.
She has also published a text about reproductive rights, the rights to education and the rights to health, focusing on the alarming level of maternal mortality in Peru and what can be done to reduce it.
WFUNA is pleased to know that Åse has been able to further deepen and develop her understanding and commitment for human rights.
