President of WFUNA Ambassador Park Soo Gil hosted a dinner on August 13 in honor of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Mrs. Ban during their visit to Seoul to participate in the closing event of Yeosu World Expo 2012.

The 36 dignitaries from political, economic, social and academic circles in Korea attended the dinner, which included Mr. Hahn Sung Su, former Prime Minister, Mr. Park Kwan Yong, former Speaker of National Assembly, Chairman Yoon Se Young of Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), Chairman Kim Jae Chul of Dongwon Group, Philanthropist and former actor Shin Young Gyun, Prof. Huyn Byung Cheol, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, Dr. Lee Kyung Sook, President of Korea National Foundation for Student Aid and the Presidents of Seoul National University as well as Ewha, Yunsei, Kangnam, and Handong Universities.

During the dinner the participants exchanged views on the major challenges and tasks the UN is faced with including the deteriorating situation in Syria and the democratic developments in Middle East and Africa, the outcome of Rio-20 and sustainable development goals, post-2015 MDGs, the importance of investing in education, etc.  President Park reiterated WFUNA’s continued support for Secretary-General Ban’s endeavors to implement his priorities of the 5-year Action Agenda.
