KOREA – WFUNA President Ambassador Park Soo Gil hosted a UNSG supporters group dinner in Seoul on August 26 to honor Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Mrs. Ban, who made a visit to Korea from August 23 to 27.
Dignitaries from political, economic, and academic circles in Korea attended the dinner. Among the 40 guests were the former Prime Minister, former Speaker of National Assembly, President of Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) and other major business leaders as well as presidents of Seoul National, Yunsei, Kyunghee, Ewha, Kangnam and Handong Universities.
During the dinner, the Secretary General and participants had candid, interactive discussions on the topical issues of international concern, such as the recent use of chemical weapons in Syria, the situation in Egypt, the future of democratic developments in Middle East, Myanmar, North Korea, the post-2015 development agenda and SDGs, and the importance of investing in education and youth. President Park reiterated WFUNA’s continued support for the Secretary General’s endeavors to cope with the world’s major challenges, and Secretary General Ban expressed his deep appreciation for WFUNA’s support and contribution to the promotion of the UN’s causes.
