Civil Society Dialogue with the United Kingdom, President of the UN Security Council for November, 2024.

On November 5, 2024, WFUNA organized the fifty-eighth installment in a series of monthly dialogues between the President of the UN Security Council and Civil Society organizations. The Dialogue was held in-person at United Nations Headquarters and broadcast live on UN Web TV for wider accessibility.

The dialogue featured H.E. Dame Barbara Woodward, Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of the United Kingdom to the UN, and was moderated by Aziel Goulandris, Secretary-General of WFUNA. The event was broadcasted live on UN Web TV and promoted on social media with the hashtag #MeetUNSCPres to allow for a participation from a global audience and wider stakeholder engagement.

Ambassador Woodward shared the Council’s provisional plan of work the month of November, which can be accessed here. She spoke about meetings scheduled for the month and focus areas, such as peace and security of Ukraine, the Middle East and Sudan.

The floor was then opened for questions from representatives of civil society organizations, inquiring on protection of civil society actors in conflict zones, protection of civilians in Sudan, and the situation in Haiti. In her commentary, the Ambassador stressed focusing on the humanitarian side of a situation and turning to innovation in building sustainable peace. Ambassador Woodward closed the Dialogue by thanking civil society for their partnership.
