On Wednesday, Oct 10th 2018, WFUNA welcomed the current UN Youth Delegates for their annual meet-and-greet in the WFUNA office.
The UN Youth Delegate Programme (UNYDP) is coordinated by the UN Focal Point on Youth under the Department of Economic and Social Affairs and forms one key opportunity for the inclusion of youth in the representation and decision-making procedures of member states.
WFUNA works closely with the UNYDP as many member UNA’s are involved in the national procedures behind the UNYDP. WFUNA usually holds their annual meet-and-greet concurrently with the 3rd Committee meetings which take place in succession of UNGA high level week.
This year WFUNA did not only use the meet-and-greet to connect with the Youth Delegates and to provide information about their work on the UNYDP (such as designing the handbook on how to establish a UNYDP and the WFUNA’s Youth Delegate Programme Multipliers) but also took the opportunity to provide a space for them to share experiences about the set-up of the programs in their respective countries as well as to conduct a working session on how to capture institutional memory among different generations of Youth Delegates.
For the sharing of best practices, WFUNA invited the Italian Youth Delegates, Ms. Fiorella Spizzuoco and Mr. Pietro Fochi to address both the challenges and possibilities in maintaining a Youth Delegate Programme on the national level as well as the Australian Youth Delegate, Mr. Amos Washington, and the German Youth Delegates Ms. Antonia Kuhn and Mr. Lukas Schlapp, to talk about the country tours they conduct as part of their mandate. These inputs triggered a vivid discussion among all participants about their individual experiences.
For the capacity building of keeping institutional memory a productive working session was conducted. The results shall function as a guideline for future communication between different generations of youth delegates.
