COVID-19 Update

Due to extended social distancing measures in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19, many of our Training Programs have been postponed for the health and safety of our participants, speakers, and facilitators. We look forward to hosting students at the United Nations again once the situation stabilizes.

Adapting to the current realities of the virus, WFUNA is excited to launch Global UN Spotlight Training Program, a fully immersive and tailor-made online educational experience for students interested in international affairs and diplomacy.

Mission & Vision

The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) is a global nonprofit organization with the largest international network working toward a better and more effective United Nations. Established in 1946, we represent and coordinate a membership of more than 100 national United Nations Associations and their thousands of constituents. Guided by a vision of justice and inclusivity, WFUNA aims to strengthen and improve the UN through the engagement of those who share a global mindset and support international cooperation. One of our main objectives, as outlined in our Constitution, is “to promote research, information and education about the goals of the Charter of the United Nations and the work of the United Nations system.”

Global Impact Through Education

In 2012, WFUNA launched the Training Program at the United Nations in support of its priority on youth engagement and leadership. As the only global organization with the primary mission of supporting the principles and purposes of the UN, WFUNA is a natural partner for such a program. With over ten years of experience in the design and implementation of Training Programs, as well as an extensive professional network, we welcome thousands of students every year who seek immersion in the core values of the United Nations: Global Citizenship, Sustainable Development and Inclusive Societies.

The Training Program is a five-day hands-on educational experience designed to promote the effective participation of youth with the UN and its mechanisms. With the help of experienced professionals, WFUNA delivers dynamic and collaborative lessons exploring critical international issues through workshops, presentations, and interactive sessions. From visits to Permanent Missions to simulations of intergovernmental conferences, our programs reflect a variety of instructional techniques to optimize student comprehension. In addition, participants will conduct research on policy proposals, and learn how to build a career in international affairs with opportunities for networking and professional development.

WFUNA’s Training Programs offer the necessary tools to understand evolving global challenges and a unique perspective on critical issues on the international agenda. Our programs aim to transfer specialized knowledge and information to develop and reinforce practical skills that will allow young people to critically engage with the work of the UN. Participants will enhance their ability to work effectively in cross-cultural contexts and foster the 21st century skills needed to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world. We provide our students the opportunity to reflect concretely on how young people can contribute to world peace, and how they, as tomorrow’s leaders, can shape it.
