WFUNA is a long-standing and strong advocate of increased and meaningful youth participation at the United Nations. The goals the United Nations has set for itself simply cannot be achieved without the meaningful inclusion of young people. After the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and UN Security Council Resolution 2250, an understanding has grown within the UN system that young people are central to the work of the United Nations. WFUNA works to meaningfully increase youth participation at the UN by promoting the UN Youth Delegate Programme among UNAs and young people around the world.

Youth Delegate Programme & Handbook

Youth Delegate Programme & Handbook

The UN Youth Delegate Programme was established with the intention of increasing youth participation at the UN by inviting member states to send youth representatives with their delegations to decision-making conferences at the UN. With generous support from the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), WFUNA launched “Youth at the UN: A Handbook for Establishing a National Youth Delegate Programme to the United Nations”, in the hopes that youth and UNAs would use the handbook to lobby their governments to establish a National Youth Delegate Programme.

WFUNA Youth Delegate Programme Multipliers

Aligned with our ultimate goal of significantly increasing youth participation at the United Nations, we partnered with former and current UN youth delegates to launch the WFUNA Youth Delegates Programme Multipliers with the aim of increasing youth participation in decision-making processes at the UN by multiplying the Youth Delegate Programme around the world, raising awareness on the Youth Delegate Programme at all levels and mentoring youth who wish to establish a Youth Delegate Programme in their countries.
