Topic Description

Artificial intelligence is changing how health information is produced, found, interpreted and communicated. AI systems can help health professionals analyze evidence, assist patients in finding information, support public-health surveillance and make knowledge more accessible. But they can also generate convincing but incorrect medical information, reproduce biases, misuse sensitive health data and amplify misinformation. These problems can cause direct harm and weaken trust in health professionals, public-health institutions and reliable information. WHO therefore emphasizes governance that promotes safe, ethical and equitable AI while preserving human oversight, accountability and public trust.
