The WFUNA International Model United Nations New York 2025 Conference will be held from February 3-6, 2025 at the InterContinental New York Times Square and the Westin New York at Times Square in New York City.

The Secretariat is responsible for organizing all logistical, substantive, and communicative aspects of the conference, with the leadership of the Senior Secretariat team.

Requirements

Eligibility

  • Must be currently enrolled in university OR have recently graduated university and be between the ages of 18-30.
  • Prior experience staffing WIMUN is highly desired.
  • Prior experience with other Model UN conferences or workshops using WIMUN Approach rules of procedure is preferred.
  • Prior experience staffing Model UN conferences is highly desired.
  • Must be committed to producing all pre-conference and on-site deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Ideal candidates should display professionalism in their work, be very responsive to communications throughout the entire conference preparation process, be open to constructive feedback, and have strong communication skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Must arrive in New York on February 01 2025, and depart on February 07, 2025. Must be available to work from February 1-7 for training sessions and the conference itself.

Department for General Assembly Affairs and Conference Management

Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management

The Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth execution of conference logistics and the effective coordination of conference-related activities. Reporting to the Secretary-General, the Under-Secretary-General oversees the work of the DGACM team, comprising three Assistant Secretaries-General (ASGs) and a team of Conference Management Officers (CMOs). Specific responsibilities include:

  • Set objectives (“rocks”) for the DGACM team and ensure timely completion.
  • Work with the Secretary-General and the ASGs to recruit a team of CMOs.
  • Conduct regular DGACM team meetings in collaboration with the ASGs.
  • Develop, update, and supervise the logistics plan for the conference.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of the logistics plan to support the smooth running of the conference on-site.
  • Coordinate with WFUNA and conference participants to generate a hotel room housing list and work with the InterContinental New York Times Square to address any issues with the submitted list.

Assistant-Secretary-General for Protocol and Liaison Service

The Assistant-Secretary-General for Protocol and Liaison Service plays a critical role in managing the registration process, communication with registered participants, and overseeing front desk operations during the conference. Reporting to the Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management, specific responsibilities include:

  • Manage the registration platform mymun, reviewing registrations, approving, and rejecting them as appropriate.
  • Keep records of the number of registrations received and make projections for expected registrations.
  • Maintain email communication with registered participants, providing timely updates and information related to the conference.
  • Prepare name lists for UN security passes in collaboration with WFUNA.
  • Manage the Conference Front Desk on-site, overseeing registration activities and assisting conference participants with questions.
  • Collaborate with the Under-Secretary-General and other Assistant Secretaries-General to recruit a team of Conference Management Officers (CMOs) and oversee the work of at least one CMO pre-conference.

Assistant-Secretary-General for Meetings and Publishing

The Assistant-Secretary-General for Meetings and Publishing plays a key role in the design, preparation, and publication of various materials essential for the conference. Reporting to the Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management, this individual oversees the production of print materials, preparation of content for guides, and coordination of on-site logistics. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Design and prepare all print materials, including conference badges, conference handbook, certificates, and awards.
  • Ensure the accuracy and quality of print materials, adhering to branding guidelines and conference requirements.
  • Coordinate with different Senior Secretariat members to prepare the content for the delegate and staff pre-arrival guides and design the final documents.
  • Prepare scripts, Organizations of Work, and Programs of Work in collaboration with the Policy Team.
  • Recruit and supervise the Conference Management Officers (CMO) Team in collaboration with other Assistant Secretaries-General and the Under-Secretary-General.
  • Oversee on-site logistics at one of the two conference venues, either the InterContinental New York Times Square or the Westin New York at Times Square, in coordination with the Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management.

Assistant Secretary-General for Central Planning and Coordination

The Assistant Secretary-General for Central Planning and Coordination plays a crucial role in coordinating various aspects of the conference, including social events, external venues, and room and A/V setups. Reporting to the Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management, specific responsibilities include:

  • Research and develop a list of options for the staff social event and staff tour in collaboration with the Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management and the Secretary-General, and finalize the booking of the different events.
  • Manage the planning of all delegate social events and complete necessary bookings and reservations.
  • Manage all logistics for the WIMUN Global Experience, including sign-ups, floor plans, and coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the room and A/V setup with the two conference venues, the InterContinental New York Times Square or the Westin New York at Times Square, and their A/V Vendor, Encore, in collaboration with WFUNA.
  • Oversee on-site logistics at one of the two conference venues in coordination with the Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management.
  • Recruit and supervise the Conference Management Officers (CMO) Team in collaboration with other Assistant Secretaries-General and the Under-Secretary-General.

Department of Global Communications

Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications

The Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications plays a pivotal role in managing the communication channels efforts of WIMUN. Reporting to the Secretary-General, this individual oversees the recruitment and management of a team of Public Information Officers (PIOs) and leads the strategic dissemination of conference-related content through various communication channels. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Recruit and manage a team of Public Information Officers (PIOs) to support the communication objectives of the conference.
  • Curate and publish pre-conference content for WIMUN’s social media channels (Facebook and Instagram) to promote the conference, disseminate information, and engage participants.
  • Develop and implement social media campaigns to build excitement and anticipation around the conference.
  • Assist other departments with graphic design tasks, as needed.
  • Assist WFUNA with email marketing efforts as needed, including drafting and designing email newsletters and promotional materials to reach new potential conference participants.
  • Oversee the completion of on-site deliverables, including conference photos, videos, and interaction with participants on social media platforms.

Policy

Under-Secretary-General for Policy

The Under-Secretary-General for Policy has ultimate responsibility for all substantive aspects of the conference, including the preparation of resource guides and the development of a database of public statements and official documents delivered during official UN meetings or published online on all agenda items. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Set objectives (“rocks”) for the Policy team and ensure timely completion of tasks to achieve conference goals.
  • Work with the Secretary-General and Assistant Secretaries-General (ASGs) to recruit a team of Chairs, Presidents, Coordinator and Facilitators for the different simulations of the conference.
  • Conduct regular Policy team meetings in collaboration with the ASGs to ensure alignment of objectives and effective communication within the team.
  • Ensure cohesion across guidelines and editing of resource guides by the Assistant Secretaries-General for Policy to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Create a comprehensive training plan for the entire conference based on input provided by the Assistant Secretaries-General for Policy and work closely with them to ensure training sessions are implemented well.
  • Manage the election of Vice-Chairs in collaboration with WFUNA, including drafting an election plan, creating candidacy and voting forms, and communicating with elected Vice-Chairs.

Assistant-Secretary-General for General Assembly Policy

The Assistant Secretary-General for General Assembly Policy plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation and success of all General Assembly Committees at the conference. Reporting to the Under-Secretary-General for Policy, specific responsibilities include:

  • Recruit a team of Chairs, Presidents, and Facilitators in collaboration with the Under-Secretary-General for Policy and the other Assistant Secretaries-General for Policy.
  • Oversee the punctual drafting of Resource Guides by GA Chairs for GA Committees and edit submitted Guides to ensure they meet substantive and formatting guidelines established by WFUNA.
  • Ensure that the database of public statements and official documents delivered during official GA meetings or published online on all agenda items is comprehensive.
  • Create and implement a comprehensive pre-conference training plan for Chairs and Delegates of all GA Committees, including online and on-site components.
  • Edit the General Assembly Delegate Training Handbook in collaboration with WFUNA.
  • Supervise the implementation of the Organization of Work for all General Assembly Committees on-site to ensure they follow proper procedures and progress within the allotted time.
  • Ensure General Assembly position papers are reviewed on time and according to WIMUN standards to facilitate effective debate during simulations.

Assistant-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Policy

The Assistant Secretary-General Economic and Social Policy plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation and success of all ECOSOC Commissions at the conference. Reporting to the Under-Secretary-General for Policy, specific responsibilities include:

  • Recruit a team of Chairs, Presidents, and Facilitators in collaboration with the Under-Secretary-General for Policy and the other Assistant Secretaries-General for Policy.
  • Oversee the punctual drafting of Resource Guides by ECOSOC Chairs and Facilitators for ECOSOC Commissions and edit submitted Guides to ensure they meet substantive and formatting guidelines established by WFUNA.
  • Ensure that the database of public statements and official documents delivered during official GA meetings or published online on all agenda items is comprehensive.
  • Create and implement a comprehensive pre-conference training plan for Chairs, Facilitators and Delegates of all ECOSOC Commissions, including online and on-site components.
  • Edit the ECOSOC Delegate Training Handbooks in collaboration with WFUNA.
  • Supervise the implementation of the Organization of Work for all ECOSOC Commissions on-site to ensure they follow proper procedures and progress within the allotted time.
  • Ensure ECOSOC position papers are reviewed on time and according to WIMUN standards to facilitate effective debate during simulations. 

Assistant-Secretary-General for Specialized Agencies, Funds and Programmes, other Entities and Bodies, and Related Organizations Policy

The Assistant-Secretary-General for Specialized Agencies, Funds and Programmes, other Entities and Bodies, and Related Organizations Policy plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation and success of all simulations of Specialized Agencies, Funds and Programmes, other Entities and Bodies and Related Organizations at the conference. Reporting to the Under-Secretary-General for Policy, specific responsibilities include:

  • Recruit a team of Chairs, Presidents, Coordinator, and Facilitators in collaboration with the Under-Secretary-General for Policy and the other Assistant Secretaries-General for Policy.
  • Oversee the punctual drafting of Resource Guides by Simulation Leaders for simulations of Specialized Agencies, Funds and Programmes, other Entities and Bodies and Related Organizations and edit submitted Guides to ensure they meet substantive and formatting guidelines established by WFUNA.
  • Ensure that the database of public statements and official documents delivered during official Specialized Agencies, Funds and Programmes, other Entities and Bodies, and Related Organizations meetings or published online on all agenda items is comprehensive.
  • Create and implement a comprehensive pre-conference training plan for Simulation Leaders and Delegates of all simulations of Specialized Agencies, Funds and Programmes, other Entities and Bodies and Related Organizations, including online and on-site components.
  • Edit the Specialized Agencies, Funds and Programmes, other Entities and Bodies and Related Organizations Delegate Training Handbooks in collaboration with WFUNA.
  • Supervise the implementation of the Organization, Programme or Plan of Work for all simulations of  Specialized Agencies, Funds and Programmes, other Entities and Bodies and Related Organization on-site to ensure they follow proper procedures and progress within the allotted time.
  • Ensure Specialized Agencies, Funds and Programmes, other Entities and Bodies and Related Organizations position papers are reviewed on time and according to WIMUN standards to facilitate effective debate during simulations.
