Topic Description

Oral diseases are among the world’s most common noncommunicable diseases, affecting an estimated 3.5 billion people. Yet, prevention and treatment remain inaccessible or unaffordable for many people, and oral health services are often separated from primary health care and universal health coverage. WHO’s Global Strategy and Action Plan on Oral Health 2023–2030 seeks a fundamental shift from a predominantly treatment-oriented model toward prevention, integration into primary health care and universal health coverage, and action on common NCD risk factors. Member States have already agreed on a global strategy, action plan and targets for 2030.
