WFUNA would like to congratulate H.E. Jan Eliasson on his appointment as Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.
An ardent advocate and supporter of WFUNA, Mr. Eliasson has always served as a champion of UNA-Sweden and the work of UNAs around the world. He was recently appointed by Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations, to his post as Deputy Secretary-General, and will come into office on 1 July 2012.
Mr. Eliasson served as President of the Sixtieth UN General Assembly in 2005 and was the first United Nations Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs in 1992. In addition to his work in mediations, Mr. Eliasson took up posts as Sweden’s Ambassador to the United States and the United Nations. Mr. Eliasson was appointed Foreign Minister of Sweden in 2006
