NEW YORK, NY – On March 29, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) organizes a Closing Ceremony for students who have completed the most recent cycle of the Mission Possible program in India.
Hosted at Vidyashilp Academy in Bangalore, this culminating event will bring together 80 students from Vidyashilp Academy, Meridian School Banjara Hills (Hyderabad) and Gitanjali School (Hyderabad). Student groups will present the work they have been doing in their communities over the past six months to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The event is a platform for global citizens to talk about the change they have brought about in their local contexts, and raises awareness about youth as critical actors of sustainable development. The 14 projects developed and led by students as part of the Mission Possible curriculum address eight of the 17 SDGs. Students have worked on providing sustainable energy sources to orphanages, challenging gender stereotypes and inequalities, and reducing pollution through terrace farming, amongst others.
“Working on our Mission Possible project gave me immense satisfaction, joy, and my outlook changed. I am excited to come and present our activities and also learn from fellow students. I am sure that this is just the beginning of the chain and more will join in the years to come,” said Surabhi Nanda, a student at Meridian School Banjara Hills in Hyderabad.
WFUNA looks forward to the event that will provide young change makers an opportunity to inspire, learn from each other, and go back with new ideas and a stronger network of support.
Mission Possible is WFUNA’s flagship global citizenship education program. Over the course of a semester, high school students acquire global competencies and 21st century skills, learn about the United Nations and the SDGs, and apply their learning through student-led projects on topics that are important to them and their communities.
