European Youth Reps Share Best Practices at UNA Meeting

European Youth Reps Share Best Practices at UNA Meeting

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4, 2014

During the WFUNA European UNAs meeting, which took place from 2-3 June 2014 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, youth representatives from participating UNAs, UN Youth Associations, chapters, sections and wings joined the general meeting as well as organized a meeting specifically for youth reps on 3 June.

The meeting began with a briefing from Emanuela Goerick from Human Resources Management Service at the United Nations Office at Geneva. After speaking about her previous experience in the Department for Peacekeeping Operations, Emanuela then introduced the different channels the UN uses to hire its employees, the opportunities available for youth and how the process works internally.

Following the briefing, the workshops kicked off with Ulrika Rönmark from UNA-Sweden and main representative of the WFUNA Youth Advisory Group for Europe. She ran an interactive session called “Mission, Objectives and Values” where she stressed the importance of having a clear mission, objectives and values to guide the organizational work. Ulrika then introduced the Logical Framework Approach and how it works to successfully manage projects.

Alessia Barachetti, WFUNA’s Development and Education Associate, was in charge of the Fundraising workshop. Alessia stressed the importance of building a sustainable donor base and gave insight into fundraising possibilities within the European Commission. An interactive session followed which tasked participants to reflect on previous fundraising experiences with governments, foundations, corporations and individuals.

Edoardo Morgante, Youth Officer at UNA-Italy, finished the workshops with a session on Digital Media. He focused the attention of the participants on using social media to tell engaging stories. He also gave some tips on how to effectively use different social media channels for different audiences and objectives.

Finally, all the Youth Representatives were able to brainstorm ideas on collaborative projects to empower and engage youth and strengthen the WFUNA Youth Network – Europe. The youth reps ended the day by attending a book signing session by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
