ROME - WFUNA Secretary-General Bonian Golmohammadi visited UNA-Italy, also known as SIOI (Societa' Italiana dell'Organizzazione Internazionale), in Rome, Italy on 3-4 June 2013.
The Secretary-General was welcomed by UNA-Italy's President, Hon. Franco Frattini, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, and his team, led by Dr. Sara Cavelli, Director General at UNA-Italy. Several meetings were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rome based UN institutions, and the City of Rome.
On 8-9 April 2013 WFUNA held its first European UNAs Meeting in Vienna, Austria, at the invitation of the United Nations Association of Austria. In collaboration with the United Nations Information Service (UNIS), UNA-Austria organized an extensive program of briefings at the Vienna International Center for representatives of the 16 participating UNAs of Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Norway, and Sweden.
SEOUL - WFUNA's President, Amb. Park Soo Gil, and Secretary-General Bonian Golmohammadi participated in the 2012 Trilateral Presidents Meeting of UNA-ROK, UNA-China, and UNA-Japan, held in Seoul, Korea, on 18-21 September. Hosted by UNA-ROK, this is the third annual Trilateral Presidents meeting, whereby UNA leadership discussed the theme of "International Peace and the Role of the United Nations: Possible Influence of the Common Culture and Tradition on the Activities of the Three Countries at the United Nations."
Today WFUNA staff met with students from UNA Russia, who are currently in Geneva for a week-long study trip at the UN. During the study trip the students have listened to presentations of staff from various UN bodies, including OHCHR, WHO and UNICEF, and observed a session of the UN Conference on Disarmament.
After holding a successful Symposium to commemorate the life of Dag Hammarskjold in Venezuela, WFUNA Secretary-General Bonian Golmohammadi and R2P Program Officer Laura Spano visited Colombia to see the wonderful work UNA-Colombia has been developing.
Though it was only a short visit, WFUNA had a jam-packed two days as UNA-Colombia introduced them to many of their projects and partners.
UNA-China invited WFUNA to a lunch reception adjacent to the Forbidden City in Beijing on 2 December, 2011. WFUNA was recently in Beijing in collaboration with UNA-China, the Research Center for United Nations and International Organizations, and the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing to commemorate the death of former UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold, and discuss his philosophy on conflict prevention and what he might have thought about new international norms, such as the Responsibility to Protect.
WFUNA held its European UNAs Meeting in Geneva on 3-4 October 2011. Participating UNAs included Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, France, Finland, Hungary, Israel, Luxembourg, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
WFUNA held its European UNAs Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, on 7-8 February 2011. The event saw the participation of 18 UNAs, namely Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
